Pitbu11 you've pretty much summed up anything I could have added as a response. I've tried to justify it as "Maybe they get better" but it doesn't really seem to be as neat until level 10, because Power Surge requires the use of Dispel Magic or Counterspell, which is situational, considering that, at least in the campaigns I've done (Which is every single one outside of Tales From the Yawning Portal, and Waterdeep's two-parts), there's not really enough spellcasters present to warrant it. I'm actually interested in it because it seems like another attempt at a pseudo-gish (Perhaps a full gish with some multiclassing into EK as you did), and I'm interested in making more wizard builds. Not trying to bash on war wizard or anything. Am I just missing something? Is this baseline ability really that effective compared to, say, Bladesinger's level 2 ability, or Abjuration Wizard's shield, which also feature defensive capabilities? I wanted to respond to you because you specifically mention Shield in response to a question regarding war wizards, but anyone can answer. ![]() I suppose the +4 saving throw is handy for the mental spells and save-or-suck spells, but I can't see it being that fantastic compared to the downsides or alternative reactions. There's also the added upside that you can react with Shield and Absorb Elements and still be able to cast full spells on your turn. And on top of that, Wizards have plenty of spell slots that they can handle performing this plenty of times per day in addition to other spells, outside of maybe the first few levels. I get that it doesn't consume spell slots, but Shield and Absorb Elements both last until the start of their next turn, and they seem a lot more effective. Kinda unrelated, but as someone who has looked at War Wizard, what is the appeal for it? The baseline ability is a +2 to AC for a single attack and a +4 to a saving throw against a single effect. ![]() r/DnD /r/rpg /r/Pathfinder_RPG /r/tabletop /r/UnearthedArcana /r/DnDHomebrew /r/dndnext Flair SearchesÄ&D 5e 1D&D D&D 4e D&D v3.5 D&D 3e Pathfinder 1 Pathfinder 2 WOD PBTA Fate GURPS Universal Other r/characterdrawing /r/Imaginar圜haracters /r/alternativeart On-Topic Subreddits
